Why choose a non rebreather mask
The reservoir bag is what makes a non rebreather mask a high-concentration oxygen device. Oxygen fills the bag between breaths, so the patient draws from a reservoir of near-pure oxygen instead of diluting each breath with room air - which is why this mask, not a simple face mask, is the one reached for when a patient is critically hypoxic.
The three check valves are the mechanism behind the name. They allow exhaled gas out and stop it being drawn back in, so carbon dioxide is not rebreathed and the reservoir is not contaminated with exhaled air. Being low-resistance matters because a breathless patient cannot work hard to open a stiff valve, and latex-free removes the allergy risk.

Is it single use?
Oxygen masks and tubing are generally single-patient items. Follow the manufacturer instructions and your infection control policy, and check the mask, valves and reservoir for damage before use - a perished or missing valve defeats the whole design.
