The AEROFORM Heavyweight Conforming Bandage 7.5cm x 4M is the heavier weave in the AEROFORM range — used to support sprains and strains and to give comfort to injured limbs and joints, rather than simply holding a dressing on. At 7.5cm it is the width to stock if you stock one — it covers elbows, knees, ankles and calves, which is where most support bandaging happens. Aero Healthcare recommend the heavyweight and premium ranges where greater support and compression are needed, including for sprains, strains and snake bites. What makes it heavyweight?
A denser, heavier weave than the standard conforming bandage. That gives it enough body to hold a joint steady and apply firmer, more even pressure, which is what support work needs and what a light retention bandage cannot do.
Heavyweight or standard — which do I need?
If the bandage is holding a dressing on, standard is enough and costs less. If it is supporting a sprained or strained joint, or providing comfort to an injured limb, choose heavyweight.
Why is 7.5cm the usual heavyweight size?
Most support bandaging is done on ankles, knees and elbows, and 7.5cm covers all three in a single pass. It is also the width commonly specified for pressure immobilisation technique, which is why kits tend to standardise on it.
How tight should a support bandage be applied?
Firm and even, never so tight that it causes numbness, tingling, pain or colour change below the bandage. Check the fingers or toes after applying and again a few minutes later, and loosen immediately if circulation looks affected. Seek medical assessment for anything beyond a minor injury.
