What makes an eyewash station worth having?
Speed. Chemical and particulate eye injuries are treated in seconds, not minutes, so the station has to be visible, mounted where the risk is, and usable by someone who cannot see properly. That is why the mirror and eye cup are built in.
Why sodium chloride rather than tap water?
Sodium chloride 0.9% is isotonic — the same salt concentration as tears — so it flushes without stinging or damaging the eye surface. Tap water is hypotonic and is a last resort, not a first choice.
How long does the seal keep it sterile?
Until the safety seal is broken. Once opened, a bottle is single-incident: use it and replace it. Check expiry dates as part of your first aid inspection, because a station full of expired saline is not a station.
Can it be used on wounds as well as eyes?
