The Alcolizer Melcorp wall mounted breathalyser is a fixed, self-service breath alcohol tester built for Australian workplaces: mine sites, transport depots, construction, manufacturing and licensed venues. It was the first Australian Standards Certified (AS 3547 Type III) wall mount unit, and it recalibrates itself every 24 hours from an internal NATA certified reference gas.
Why a wall mounted breathalyser rather than a hand held
A hand held unit needs someone to operate it. A wall mounted breathalyser sits at the entry point and lets people test themselves, unsupervised, every time they come on site. That changes what the testing is for: instead of a supervisor selecting who gets tested, everyone tests, and the awkward conversation happens before someone starts work rather than after an incident.
If you need a portable unit for field or random testing instead, the Alcolizer HH1 hand held is the same platform in a portable form.
The self-calibration is the point
Breath testing instruments drift, and a unit that has drifted is worse than no unit because people trust the number. Most instruments handle this by being sent away periodically for calibration, which means downtime, a swap unit, and a schedule someone has to own.
This one carries its own NATA certified reference gas internally and recalibrates every 24 hours without intervention. There is no manual calibration to schedule and no unit to send away. Over a multi-year deployment that is usually the difference in running cost, not the purchase price.
Accuracy and how it measures
It uses high grade platinum electrochemical fuel cell technology, the same sensing method used in police devices internationally. Fuel cell sensors respond to ethanol specifically, which is why they are preferred over cheaper semiconductor sensors that can react to other substances on the breath. Combined with evidential style test operation, that is what AS 3547 Type III certification reflects.
