Emergency first aid training scene with rescue gear

During first aid training, you learn so much about what to do if an accident should occur.  These are vital things that could help save someone's life in the event of an accident, choking or medical emergency.  However, not everyone takes the time to do first aid training. But, it is super important to have, especially as a parent.

Children love to play in the water, however, even the splash pads can be a place of injury. Slip and falls with the face covered in water can cause a child to drown rather quickly.  Having these first aid skills helps you quickly spring to action to help a child that has inhaled too much water. There are other bodies of water such as pools and lakes that children are often drawn to as well.  And, we hear all the time how people have saved drowning children from death by pulling them out and performing CPR while the medics arrived.

First Aid is the First Defense

Many times there is no time to wait for the medics.  It just simply takes them too long to get there and the people around the situation have to take matters into their own hands.  Having proper medical training will inform you that you must remain calm. Remaining calm in these situations allows you to think clearly, fast and get the situation as under control as possible.  People don't plan for emergencies which is why they are emergencies, however, having the proper training will help with the situation.

First Aid is the first line of defense in an accident.  Coming on the scene of a car accident, for example, many pedestrians are around before any authority.  These are critical times where the situation should be assessed by someone that has their first aid training.  Often times these individuals are bleeding and need pressure held on their wounds, CPR or just needing to be calmed as well.  Many people want to remove them immediately, however, their injuries are unknown and removing them could injure them further. These are things that you would learn in a First Aid class and understand the proper procedures for various common accident situations.

First Aid for Drowning

There are so many situations and scenarios we could go into.  But, a simple search on the internet on how CPR has saved lives will show you real-time cases. Every summer there are kids being saved from pools from drowning. Despite the parents best efforts to keep them safe. Kids even drown in a pool filled with adults. If you have a child that is around a pool it is your responsibility to ensure that child is watched at all times. Remember, it only takes a couple of minutes for the child to slip away. Even a child that has a floating device isn't safe to leave alone. Children that cannot swim need extra precaution taken to ensure they are watched.

Getting your first aid training isn't complicated either. There are many online courses as well as free courses available in communities to help save lives. Be sure to stock up your at home first aid kit and your DRSABCD plan.
