Boating First Aid Kit
The Trafalgar Boating kit comes complete with 126 pieces of quality first aid products in a highly visible water resistant case, which has been equipped with a detailed CPR Guide on the back and an additional reflective strip on the front so it can be easily seen and used in an emergency.
A boating first aid kit from Trafalgar, 126 pieces in a water-resistant, high-visibility case. Built for recreational boating, where help is further away and everything gets wet.
Why a boating first aid kit is different
Three constraints change the kit. Water gets into everything, so the case has to resist it and the contents have to survive being stored damp. Help is not minutes away, so the kit must cover more than a domestic one. And a case that falls overboard or ends up under gear needs to be findable, which is what the high-visibility colour is for.
Marine injuries also skew differently: hooks, line cuts, burns from engines and exhausts, slips on wet decks, sunburn and seasickness.
Recreational versus commercial vessels
This kit is for recreational boating. Commercial vessels in Australia are covered by survey requirements with specified scales of kit, and a recreational kit does not satisfy those. If you operate under survey, buy to the scale your vessel requires rather than to convenience.

Where to stow it
Somewhere reachable from the helm without opening a locker you need two hands for, and known to everyone aboard, not just the skipper. The person who needs the kit may be the person who cannot get to it, and a guest who has never been aboard before should be able to find it if told where it is.

Boating first aid kit FAQs
What makes a boating first aid kit different?
A water-resistant, high-visibility case and broader contents, because help is further away on the water and everything aboard gets wet. Marine injuries also differ: hooks, line cuts, engine burns and slips on wet decks.
How many pieces are in it?
126, in a water-resistant high-visibility case.
Does it meet commercial vessel survey requirements?
No. This is a recreational kit. Commercial vessels operating under survey need a kit to the specified scale for that vessel. Buy to the scale required rather than assuming a recreational kit is accepted.
Where should I keep it on board?
Reachable from the helm, not buried in a locker, and known to everyone aboard including guests. The person needing it may not be the person who stowed it.
How often should I check it?
At the start of each season, after any use, and after any trip where the kit got wet. Damp storage shortens the life of adhesive dressings in particular.
Do I need first aid training as well?
It matters more on the water than almost anywhere else, because you cannot hand over to an ambulance in ten minutes. If you boat beyond sheltered water, marine-oriented first aid training is worth more than extra contents.
A first aid kit supports trained first aid and does not replace medical care. In an emergency use your marine radio or call your local emergency number. This information is a general guide and is not medical advice.
