RID Insect Repellent from medibc
RID is one of Australia's most trusted insect repellent brands, protecting against mosquitoes, midges, sandflies, flies and other biting insects. The MediBC RID range covers everyday and tropical strength formulas as sprays, roll-ons, pump mists and aerosols, plus options with added antiseptic for bite relief, a kids range, mosquito coils and a repellent-plus-sunscreen combo.
Not sure which to choose? Higher-strength tropical formulas suit travel and high-mosquito areas; lighter everyday formulas suit school, work and around the home. Keep one in the car and the campsite, and add a repellent to your workplace or travel first aid kit.

How to choose a mosquito and insect repellent
The two things that matter most are the active ingredient and how long you need protection. DEET is the most widely studied repellent active and works against mosquitoes and a broad range of biting insects; higher concentrations last longer rather than working harder, so tropical-strength RID suits long days outdoors, travel to high-mosquito regions and dusk-to-dawn exposure. Lighter everyday formulas are fine for short periods around home, school and work. Reapply after swimming, heavy sweating or the time stated on the pack.
RID product types in this range
- Pump sprays & aerosols — fast, even coverage for arms, legs and clothing.
- Roll-ons — mess-free, handbag and travel friendly (avoid eyes and mouth).
- Tropical strength + antiseptic — longer protection plus relief for existing bites and minor skin irritation.
- RID Kids — gentler formulas designed for children.
- Mosquito coils — area protection for patios, camping and outdoor sitting.
- Repellent + sunscreen combo — sun and insect protection in one.
What is DEET?
DEET (diethyltoluamide) is the active ingredient in most effective repellents, including tropical-strength RID. It masks the cues mosquitoes use to find you. Used as directed it is suitable for general use; for infants and young children follow the age guidance on the pack and consider a lower-strength or kids formula.
Does insect repellent expire?
Yes. Check the expiry or period-after-opening on the pack and replace old stock, as effectiveness drops over time. Store below 30C, away from heat and direct sun.
