QV Gentle Wash or QV Wash?
This is the question worth answering first, because the two look interchangeable and are not. Both are soap-free cleansers from the same range. QV Gentle Wash carries a higher concentration of moisturiser than QV Wash, which is the whole reason it exists: it is the choice when skin is genuinely dry rather than simply sensitive.
In practice, people with eczema-prone, very dry or winter-cracked skin use the Gentle Wash. People who just want a soap substitute that will not sting use the QV Wash. If you are unsure, the Gentle Wash is the safer default, because a wash that leaves too much moisture behind causes nobody any trouble.
Why soap-free matters
Ordinary soap is alkaline. Skin sits around pH 5, and washing with something alkaline strips the acid mantle and the lipids that hold water in - which is why dry skin often feels worse straight after a shower, not better. A pH-balanced, soap-free wash cleans without that trade-off, and the 15% glycerin actively returns moisture during washing.
That is also why the advice to moisturise while skin is still slightly damp works so well with it: wash, pat dry, then apply QV Cream or another emollient within a few minutes.

What this is not: QV Gentle Wash is a cleanser, not an antibacterial or antiseptic wash, and not a medicated treatment. Where hand hygiene actually matters - clinical work, food handling, after contact with someone unwell - use a product intended for that purpose. Cleansing and disinfecting are different jobs.

Is QV Gentle Wash antibacterial, and does it kill germs?
No. It is a soap-free cleanser designed to wash without stripping the skin, and it makes no antibacterial claim. Washing with any cleanser and running water removes a great deal mechanically, which is why handwashing works, but that is not the same as disinfecting. If you need an antibacterial or antiseptic product for clinical or food-handling use, buy one intended for that.
Can I use QV Gentle Wash on my face?
People do, and being soap-free and fragrance-free it is a reasonable plain option for dry facial skin. Keep it out of the eyes. If your skin is oily or acne-prone, watch how it responds, since a wash formulated to leave moisture behind is not always what congested skin wants. QV also makes a dedicated face cleanser if you would rather use something intended for the job.
Can QV Gentle Wash be used as a shampoo?
It is formulated as a body and hand wash, not for hair, and it will not behave like a shampoo on oily scalps or styled hair. For a sensitive scalp the range includes a dedicated gentle shampoo, which is the better answer. Occasional use on hair will not harm you, but it is not what the product is for.
How do you use it?
Use it in place of soap. In the shower, apply to wet skin, wash and rinse. At the basin it works as a hand wash. Pat dry rather than rubbing, and moisturise while the skin is still slightly damp - that traps the water already there, which is far more effective than applying cream to fully dry skin.
Is it suitable for eczema-prone skin?
Soap-free, fragrance-free washes are the usual recommendation for eczema-prone skin because there is less in them to irritate, and reducing soap exposure is a recognised part of everyday skin care.
