Is this a medical tourniquet or a trauma tourniquet?
This is a venipuncture tourniquet, and the distinction matters. A phlebotomy strap like this applies light pressure for a short time so a vein stands up for a needle. A trauma tourniquet is a windlass device applied hard and deliberately to stop life threatening bleeding from a limb, and it is a different product entirely. If you are stocking for bleeding control rather than blood collection, choose a windlass tourniquet instead - do not substitute this strap.

Medical Tourniquet FAQs
What is a tourniquet used for?
Two very different jobs. A venipuncture tourniquet like this one briefly restricts venous return so a vein becomes easier to see and puncture for a blood draw or a cannula. A trauma tourniquet is a separate device used to stop severe limb bleeding in an emergency.
How long can a tourniquet stay on for a blood draw?
Standard practice is no more than about one minute. Leaving a venipuncture tourniquet on longer can change the sample through haemoconcentration and is uncomfortable for the patient. Release it as soon as blood flow is established.
Is this tourniquet latex free?
Yes. The strap is latex free, which matters in a clinical setting where either the patient or the person taking the sample may have a latex sensitivity.
Can it be reused and cleaned?
It is a reusable strap rather than a single use item. Wipe it down between patients in line with your own infection control policy, and replace it if it becomes soiled, stretched or the buckle stops holding reliably.
Where should the tourniquet be placed on the arm?
Generally around 7 to 10cm above the intended puncture site, over the upper arm rather than the elbow crease. It should be firm enough to raise the vein but never so tight that it stops the arterial pulse.
