Defibrillator accessories are the consumable parts that keep an automated external defibrillator (AED) ready to use — the electrode defibrillator pads that deliver the shock and read the heart rhythm, and the defibrillator battery that powers the unit and its self-tests. Every pad and battery carries a printed expiry or use-by date, because the conductive gel on the pads dries out and battery charge drops over time.
This range covers replacement AED pads and AED batteries for the defibrillators we supply, in both adult and paediatric options.
Defibrillator pads and AED electrodes
Defibrillator pads (also called electrode pads or defib pads) are single-use. After a rescue they must be replaced, and even unused pads should be swapped at the printed expiry — dried gel can stop a pad sticking or reading the rhythm. Keep a spare set with every AED. Adult and paediatric pads are not interchangeable, so match the pad to the patient and to your AED model.
Defibrillator batteries
The defibrillator battery powers the unit and runs the automatic self-tests that confirm the AED is rescue-ready. Batteries last several years depending on the model and how often the AED self-tests or is used, then need replacing at the manufacturer use-by date. A flat or expired battery is one of the most common reasons an AED is not ready in an emergency.
How to choose replacement defibrillator accessories
| Accessory | What it does | When to replace | Adult vs paediatric |
|---|---|---|---|
| Defibrillator pads / electrodes | Deliver the shock and read the heart rhythm | After every use, or at the printed expiry (often around 2 years) | Separate adult and paediatric pads |
| Defibrillator battery | Powers the AED and runs self-tests | At the manufacturer use-by (often around 4–5 years) | Model-specific; same unit for adult and paediatric use |

Defibrillator accessories for Zoll AEDs
We are an authorised Australian Zoll supplier and stock the matching Zoll pads and batteries (including CPR-D and paediatric options) alongside accessories for the other AEDs in our range. If you are not sure which pad or battery fits your model, check your AED label or our defibrillator buying guide. Read the AED buying guide.
Do defibrillator pads expire, and how often should you replace them?
Yes. Defibrillator pads and batteries both carry expiry or use-by dates. Replace pads after every use and at their printed expiry (commonly about every two years), and replace the battery at the manufacturer use-by (commonly every four to five years). Check both monthly so the AED stays rescue-ready.
Common questions
How often do defibrillator pads need replacing?
After every use, and otherwise at the printed expiry date — commonly around every two years. Dried electrode gel can stop a pad sticking or reading the rhythm, so do not use pads past their date.
How long does a defibrillator battery last?
It depends on the model and how often the AED self-tests or is used — commonly four to five years to the manufacturer use-by date. Replace the battery at that date, or sooner if the AED status indicator shows low power.
Are adult and paediatric defibrillator pads the same?
No. Adult and paediatric pads are different and are not interchangeable. Match the pad to the patient and to your AED model; keep a paediatric set if children may need treatment.
How do I dispose of old defibrillator pads?
Used or expired pads are single-use consumables — dispose of them per your workplace waste guidance and the manufacturer instructions, and fit a fresh set so the AED is ready.
Which pads and battery fit my Zoll AED?
Check your AED model label and match the Zoll pad and battery for that unit. If you are unsure, contact us or see the AED buying guide.
