QV Intensive Cream is the richest cream in the QV body range, made by Ego Pharmaceuticals in Braeside, Victoria, for extremely dry, sensitive skin. It is preservative-free, which is the point of difference within the range: if your skin reacts to preservatives, this is the QV moisturiser formulated without them. Available in a 100g tube and a 500g pump.
What QV Intensive Cream does
Ego describes the formulation as an Up to 24 Hrs Triple Moisturising Action: it attracts moisture, retains it, and seals it in. The texture is deliberately rich, but it absorbs readily rather than sitting on the surface, which is the usual complaint with heavy emollients.
- Preservative-free, reducing one common cause of irritation.
- Non-comedogenic, so it will not block pores.
- Hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested.
- Free from fragrance, lanolin, propylene glycol and colour.
How to use it, and yes it is for the face too
Ego's directions are direct about this and it answers the question people ask most: apply liberally to face and body and massage in gently. Use after bathing or showering, or as often as your skin requires.
The most useful habit is applying within a few minutes of getting out of the shower, while the skin is still slightly damp. You are sealing in water that is already there, which is what the "retains and seals" part of the formulation is doing. Applying to bone-dry skin hours later works less well.
Avoid the eyes. For external use only. If irritation occurs, wash the area and discontinue use. Store below 30 degrees.
Which QV moisturiser do you actually need?
The range overlaps heavily and the names do not make it obvious, so in short:
- QV Intensive Cream is the rich, preservative-free one for extremely dry or preservative-sensitive skin. That is this page.
- QV Cream is the everyday all-purpose moisturiser for dry skin, and the one most households mean by "QV".
- QV Skin Lotion is lighter and pours, which suits large areas and warmer weather.

There is no corticosteroid and no active medicine in QV Intensive Cream. It is a moisturiser, not a treatment, which is why it can be used as often as skin requires and why it does not treat a condition on its own.

QV Intensive Cream FAQs
Can I use QV Intensive Cream on my face?
Yes. Ego's directions say to apply it liberally to face and body and massage in gently. It is non-comedogenic, so it is not expected to block pores, and being preservative-free and fragrance-free it suits skin that reacts to other moisturisers. It is rich, so some people prefer it at night on the face and something lighter during the day.
Does QV cream contain steroids?
No. QV Intensive Cream contains no corticosteroid and no active medicine of any kind. It is an emollient moisturiser. If you have been prescribed a steroid cream for a skin condition, a moisturiser like this is generally used alongside it rather than instead of it, and your doctor or pharmacist can tell you how to space them.
Is QV Intensive Cream good for eczema?
It is a rich, preservative-free, fragrance-free moisturiser, which is the general profile recommended for eczema-prone skin, and regular moisturising is a standard part of managing dry, itchy skin. It is not a treatment for eczema in itself and makes no claim to be. For a flare, or for a diagnosis, see a pharmacist or doctor about what should go on the skin alongside a moisturiser.
Does it clog pores?
Ego lists it as non-comedogenic, meaning it is formulated not to block pores. It is still a rich cream, so if you are acne-prone you may prefer a lighter option on the face, such as QV Skin Lotion, and keep the Intensive Cream for hands, body and very dry patches.
Is it good for acne?
It is not an acne treatment and contains no acne active. Where it can help is alongside one: acne treatments are frequently drying and irritating, and a bland non-comedogenic moisturiser makes them easier to keep using. For the acne itself, speak to a pharmacist about a product with an appropriate active ingredient.
Can I use it on a new tattoo?
Ask your tattooist, and follow their aftercare instructions rather than ours. A fresh tattoo is a healing wound with specific aftercare, and artists differ on what they want used and when. Once healed, a bland fragrance-free moisturiser is commonly used to keep the skin in good condition.
Can I use it on sensitive or intimate areas?
It is a fragrance-free, preservative-free external moisturiser, which is a gentler profile than most. That said, persistent irritation, itching or a rash in the genital area needs a proper look rather than a moisturiser, because several conditions present that way and some need specific treatment. See a pharmacist or doctor if symptoms are ongoing.
Can I use QV cream on my dog?
Ask a vet. It is a common question and the honest answer is that we are not the right people to answer it. Animals lick what you put on them, and a vet can tell you quickly whether it is suitable or recommend something made for the purpose.
What is the difference between the 100g and 500g?
Quantity and format. The 100g is a tube that travels and suits face or spot use; the 500g is a pump that makes more sense for whole-body application and daily household use, and works out better value per gram. The ingredient lists differ only in the order of two entries.
