The Active Seal Adult Short Arm Cast Bandage Protector is a reusable short arm cast protector for a below-elbow cast or bandage - the wrist and forearm casts that make up most adult cast injuries. Made from TPE, it maintains a waterproof seal for showering, bathing, swimming, water sports, whirlpools and hot tubs.
Why choose a short arm cast protector
A below-elbow cast is the most common adult cast there is - wrist fractures especially - and it is worn for around six weeks. That is roughly forty showers, and a short arm cast protector is what stops every one of them becoming a careful exercise in holding an arm out of the water.
Keeping it dry is a clinical requirement. A wet plaster cast softens and loses the support the fracture depends on, and a wet fibreglass cast holds damp padding against the skin - which on a wrist cast sits right over the areas most prone to itching and breakdown. Neither is something you can dry out afterwards.
It seals by the TPE stretching over the forearm, with no pumps, hook and loop closures or adhesive tapes that may irritate skin. Being the shorter size it is the easiest of the range to fit one-handed, and it is reusable, folds compactly enough for a gym or swim bag, and lasts three to four weeks of daily use with normal care.

What size cast does it fit?

Why must the cast stay dry?
A plaster cast softens when wet and stops supporting the bone. A fibreglass cast keeps water in its padding against the skin, which causes itching and skin breakdown under a cast that may have weeks left to run.
Can I use it one-handed?
This is the easiest size in the range to manage alone, because the TPE simply stretches on and there are no pumps, straps or tapes to fasten. That matters when the hand you would normally use is the one in the cast.
Can I swim with it?
It is intended for swimming, water sports, whirlpools, hot tubs, showering and bathing. Check with your treating doctor or fracture clinic first, as some injuries and casts should not be submerged.
How long will it last?
Three to four weeks of daily use with normal care - about half the life of a typical six-week cast, so some people buy two. Chemicals and heat shorten it, so rinse after pool use and dry away from direct heat.
What if water gets inside?
Remove it, dry the arm and cast edges as much as possible, and contact your doctor or fracture clinic if the cast feels soft or loose, smells, or the skin underneath becomes itchy or sore. Do not try to dry a cast with a hairdryer.
