The Trafalgar Sports First Aid Kit is a lightweight, portable kit designed around sporting injuries, for personal use or a team bag. Small enough to carry to the field every week, which is the only kit that helps.

What a sports first aid kit has to handle

Sport produces a narrow, predictable set of injuries and they are not the same as household ones: sprains and strains, corks and bruising, grazes from turf and gravel, blisters, split lips and nosebleeds, and the occasional heavier bleed. The emphasis sits on cold, compression and cover rather than on burns and cuts.

It also has to work at the side of a field with no water, no table and no light, often one-handed while somebody is still on the ground.

Who carries it

Team managers, coaches, club first aiders, parents running juniors, and individuals in contact or field sports. Its portability is the feature: a kit that lives in the clubhouse is not at the away game.

What to add for your sport

A standard kit cannot know your code. Add instant cold packs generously, since they are the item that empties fastest; strapping and cohesive bandage if your sport tapes ankles and wrists; a mouthguard case; and players’ own medication, particularly asthma relievers, with consent and a plan for who holds them.

Head knocks are the decision a kit cannot make for you. Any suspected concussion means the player comes off and does not return that day, regardless of how they say they feel. Follow your sport’s concussion protocol, which overrides everything on this page. The same applies to a suspected fracture, dislocation or neck injury: do not move the player, call for help.

Sports first aid kit FAQs

What is in a sports first aid kit?

Contents weighted toward sporting injuries: cold therapy, compression and support, wound cover for grazes, and basics for split lips and nosebleeds, rather than the burns-and-kitchen bias of a household kit.

Is it big enough for a whole team?

It is a portable sideline kit. For a full squad across a season, expect to restock cold packs and strapping frequently, and consider a second kit or bulk refills rather than assuming one will last.

What should I add myself?

Extra instant cold packs, strapping or cohesive bandage if your sport tapes, and players’ own medication such as asthma relievers, held with consent and a clear plan for who has them.

What do I do about a head knock?

The player comes off and does not return that day if concussion is suspected. Follow your sport’s concussion protocol. No kit contents change that decision, and "they said they were fine" is not an assessment.

How often should I check it?

Before each season and after every game where it was opened. Cold packs and tape are the items that quietly run out, and nobody notices until the sideline.

Does someone need first aid training?

At least one person at every fixture, ideally. Sport is one of the few settings where injuries are near-certain over a season, which makes trained hands more valuable than extra supplies.

A first aid kit supports trained first aid and does not replace medical care. Follow your sport’s concussion and injury protocols. In an emergency call your local emergency number. This information is a general guide and is not medical advice.
