This Microshield pump is a 5ml gooseneck dispensing pump that fits 500ml and 1L Microshield bottles. It replaces a lost or worn pump and turns a refill bottle into a working dispenser at the point of care.

Why the right Microshield pump matters

The 5ml metered dose is the part that matters clinically. Hand hygiene only works if there is enough product to keep the hands wet for the full rub time, and when people dispense by feel they consistently take too little. A measured pump removes that variable, so compliance stops depending on how hard someone presses.

Matching the Microshield pump to the bottle is not a detail either. A pump with the wrong dip tube length does not reach the bottom of a 1L bottle, so the last portion is thrown away - and a pump that is too long fouls the base and dispenses air. This one is specified for both 500ml and 1L bottles.

The gooseneck spout puts the outlet clear of the bottle, so a hand can be presented underneath without touching the container. That is the practical difference between a dispenser used properly in a clinical room and one that becomes a contact point everybody touches.

Common uses

Clinical rooms, treatment bays, dental surgeries and aged care - anywhere a refill bottle is in service and the pump has gone missing or stopped priming. For a hand antiseptic already supplied with its own pump, Avagard Antiseptic Hand Rub 500ml pump is the complete unit. Surface decontamination is a separate job - Clinell Universal Wipes cover that. Microshield pump FAQs

What bottles does this Microshield pump fit?

It is specified for 500ml and 1L bottles in the Microshield range. Check your bottle size before ordering - a pump with the wrong dip tube length either fails to reach the product at the bottom or fouls the base and draws air.

Why does a 5ml dose matter?

Because hand hygiene depends on having enough product to keep the hands wet for the full rub time. Dispensing by feel almost always under-doses, so a metered 5ml pump makes the dose consistent regardless of who is using it.

What is a gooseneck spout for?

It puts the outlet clear of the bottle so a hand can be presented underneath without touching the container. That keeps the bottle from becoming a shared contact surface in a clinical area.

Is this just a replacement part?

Mostly, yes - pumps get lost, clogged or broken long before the bottles do. Keeping a spare means a full refill bottle never sits unusable, which is a common and avoidable reason a dispenser point goes empty.

Can it be reused on a new bottle?

Follow your facility policy. Many services replace the pump with the bottle to avoid carrying contamination across, particularly in clinical areas. If a pump is transferred, it should be cleaned and inspected first.

How do I prime it?

Fit it to the bottle, then press several times until product flows consistently. If it keeps drawing air, check the dip tube is fully seated and that the bottle is not below the level the tube can reach.

Use with the product it is intended for and in accordance with the manufacturer instructions and your organisation infection control policy. A dispensing pump is not a substitute for correct hand hygiene technique or for the recommended rub time. Inspect for damage and correct priming before use.
