The Active Seal Pediatric Arm Cast Bandage Protector is a reusable pediatric cast protector that keeps a child's arm cast or bandage dry during showering, bathing, swimming, water sports, whirlpools and hot tubs. It is made from TPE - a high-performance thermoplastic elastomer that stretches easily - maintains a waterproof seal, and measures 48cm.
Why choose a pediatric cast protector
Keeping a cast dry is a clinical requirement, not a convenience. A wet plaster cast softens and loses the support the injury depends on, and a wet fibreglass cast holds damp padding against the skin, which causes itching, maceration and skin breakdown you cannot see or reach. Why does a cast have to stay dry?
A plaster cast softens when wet and stops supporting the bone properly. A fibreglass cast holds water in its padding against the skin, which causes itching, softening and skin breakdown in a place you cannot dry or inspect. Either way a wet cast can mean an unscheduled trip back to the fracture clinic.
Can a child swim with it?
It is designed for swimming, water sports, whirlpools, hot tubs, showering and bathing. Always supervise a child in water regardless, and check with the treating doctor or fracture clinic first - some injuries and some casts are not suitable for submersion at all, whatever cover is used.
How does it stay on without tape?
The TPE stretches over the limb and forms the seal itself, so there are no pumps, hook and loop closures or adhesive tapes involved. That matters most with children, because nothing adhesive touches the skin and there is nothing to argue about at bath time.
How long will it last?
Three to four weeks of daily use with normal care - roughly the life of a typical cast. Chemicals and heat shorten that, so rinse it in fresh water after pool or spa use, dry it away from direct heat, and check it for splits before each use.
What if water gets in?
Dry the outside, remove the protector, and dry the limb and cast edges as much as you can. If the cast feels soft, heavy, smells, or the skin underneath becomes itchy or sore, contact your doctor or fracture clinic - do not try to dry a cast with a hairdryer or heater.
Will it fit any child's arm?
