The AEROSPLINT Folded Aluminium Foam Splint is a highly adaptive splint that can be rolled, folded or formed into almost any shape, then held with a support bandage. Immobilisation limits further injury while a casualty is moved or waits for help, and quality immobilisation is integral to the recovery of skeletal injuries. Supplied flat and folded, so it stores neatly in a kit and opens out to its full 90cm when needed. Shrink-wrapped for protection, 90 x 11cm.

Aluminium Foam Splint FAQs

Why an aluminium foam splint rather than a rigid one?

Adaptability. A rigid splint fits one shape; a mouldable aluminium splint bends to the limb and holds that shape, so a single splint covers wrists, forearms, ankles and lower legs. It also cuts to length if needed.

How is it secured?

With a support bandage over the splint — a conforming or crepe bandage is usual. The splint provides the rigidity; the bandage holds it against the limb. Firmly, but never so tight that circulation is affected below it.

Which size should a kit carry?

A 90cm splint covers the most ground because it can be cut or folded down, so it is the sensible single choice. Sites that see a lot of hand and wrist injuries often add the short 22cm as well.

Can it be reused?

It can be re-formed and reused for training and non-clinical purposes, and should be inspected first — a splint that has been sharply creased or torn no longer holds shape reliably. For treating a fresh injury, use a clean splint.
