Why choose DermAid Soft over regular DermAid?
The difference between the two DermAid creams is how the hydrocortisone is carried. In DermAid Soft the hydrocortisone is dispersed, which makes it gentler and better suited to sensitive areas - and it is the formulation recommended for use on the face, applied carefully and kept away from the eyes. In regular DermAid the hydrocortisone is dissolved, so it penetrates more rapidly. Same active, same strength, different delivery.
It covers a wide range of everyday irritations: dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis, plus itching and rashes caused by soap, detergent, cosmetics, jewellery, insect bites, sunburn and non-infected anogenital itching. Apply a small amount to the affected skin one to three times daily as required, and wash with a soap alternative rather than soap, which will otherwise keep re-irritating the same patch.
There are firm limits worth respecting with any topical steroid. Do not use it for more than 7 days unless a doctor tells you to, do not use it under waterproof dressings, do not use it on acne, and do not use it on children under 2 years unless a doctor has recommended it. What is the difference between DermAid and DermAid Soft?
The hydrocortisone is dispersed in DermAid Soft and dissolved in regular DermAid. Dispersed is gentler and suits sensitive skin, which is why Soft is the one recommended for the face. Dissolved penetrates more rapidly. Both are 0.5 percent hydrocortisone - the active and the strength are identical.
Can I use it on my face?
Yes, this is the DermAid formulation recommended for facial use - but apply it carefully, keep it well away from the eye area, and observe the 7-day limit. Facial skin is thinner and shows steroid-related thinning sooner than skin elsewhere, so it is not a product to keep using indefinitely.
How long can I use it for?
Up to 7 days unless a doctor recommends longer. If the rash has not settled in a week, that is a signal to be assessed rather than to continue - it may not be the kind of condition a mild steroid treats, and it could be an infection, which a steroid can make worse.
Can I use it on a child?
