Why use adhesive remover wipes?

Pulling tape straight off can strip the top layer of skin, and on thin or older skin, or skin that has a dressing changed often, that damage adds up. Remover wipes work the other way round: the solvent loosens the adhesive bond first, so the dressing needs less force to lift. Smith and Nephew says that reduces the risk of irritation and skin stripping, which matters most in stoma care, where a pouch or base plate is changed regularly, and on fragile skin.

How to use them

Open a sachet and hold the saturated wipe at the edge of the tape or appliance. Squeeze gently so the fluid runs between the skin and the adhesive, then lift the edge slowly as it releases, working the wipe further under as you go. Wipe away any adhesive left on the skin. Follow the pack directions before putting a new dressing or appliance on the same area. Use one wipe and discard it.

Safety: what these wipes are not for

These wipes are for external use on intact skin only. Do not apply them to open wounds or mucous membranes, and avoid the eyes. The solvent is flammable, so use it in a well-ventilated area away from heat, sparks and open flame, and don’t breathe in the vapour. The Australian product information advises against use on children under 12, as it may cause irritation. Use only as directed and limit use to the immediate adhesive area.
