Why this arrow sign is green, not black
Colour carries meaning before direction does. Under AS 1319 green marks emergency information - first aid, assembly points, emergency equipment and safe routes - while black on white is plain identification and a red ring with a slash is a prohibition. A green arrow therefore says "the safety thing you are looking for is this way", which is a different message from a black directional arrow used for general wayfinding or traffic. Use it as the connective tissue between a destination sign and the person looking for it: one at the corridor junction, one at the stair head, one where a route turns. A destination sign with no arrows leading to it only works for people who already know where it is, which is exactly the wrong group to design for.
Common uses
Routing to first aid rooms, assembly points, emergency equipment and safe exits in workplaces, schools, warehouses and community buildings. Pair it with an assembly point sign at the destination or a first aid sign at the kit, or browse more first aid supplies at MediBC.
Arrow Sign FAQs
What does a green arrow sign mean?
Green marks emergency information under AS 1319, so a green arrow points the way to safety equipment, a first aid room, an assembly point or a safe route. It is not a general traffic arrow.
Can the arrow be mounted pointing any direction?
Yes. It is a plain plate with mounting holes, so it can be fixed to point the way you need. Keep the orientation unambiguous - a diagonal arrow can read as either straight on or around a corner.
Where should directional arrows be placed?
At every point a person has to make a decision: corridor junctions, stair heads, lift lobbies and anywhere a route changes direction. Gaps in the chain are where people stop and guess.
Is 135 x 200mm big enough?
It suits indoor corridors and doorways where the reader is reasonably close. For a large warehouse or an outdoor route, a larger directional sign will carry further.
Does it come with text?
No, it is the arrow only. That is deliberate - it lets one product serve any destination, and it pairs with whichever destination sign you are routing to.
