This standard wheelchair has drop-back handles, an aluminium frame and solid tyres. At 16kg it is the lighter of the two standard chairs we stock, with a 100kg capacity, folding to 28cm wide, and includes quick release rear wheels, hand and united brakes, ankle straps, swing-back sides, fold-away foot rests and tipping levers.

Why choose this standard wheelchair

Weight is the whole argument for this one. At 16kg against 22kg for the stainless steel version, it is six kilos easier to lift into a car boot - and that difference decides whether a chair actually gets taken out or stays in the hallway. The aluminium frame is what delivers it.

The drop-back handles are the distinguishing feature and they solve a real problem: handles that fold down let the chair fit into a smaller boot or storage space, and they make it easier to get the folded chair through a doorway. Combined with quick release rear wheels, the chair breaks down quickly for transport.

Everything expected of a standard wheelchair is present - hand brakes plus united brakes so it is secured in one action before a transfer, swing-back sides for lateral transfers onto a bed, fold-away foot rests, ankle straps and tipping levers for an attendant handling a kerb. Solid tyres mean nothing to inflate or puncture.
