The FIRSTCARE Civilian Trauma Bandage in 15 x 18cm (white) is the trauma dressing commonly known as the Israeli bandage. It raises haemorrhage control by consolidating several pieces of treatment equipment into one unit — dressing, pressure applicator and fixation together — so a single responder can apply firm pressure over a wound without assembling anything. First Care's direct-pressure Emergency Bandage is combat and clinically proven and has been adopted by military and civilian organisations worldwide. The larger 15 x 18cm pad in civilian white, for wounds beyond the standard limb size. Part of the Aero wound dressings range.

Emergency Bandage FAQs

Is this the same as an Israeli bandage?

Yes. The FirstCare Emergency Bandage is the product commonly called the Israeli bandage or Israeli emergency bandage — a direct-pressure trauma bandage with an integrated pressure applicator and a closure bar, developed for battlefield haemorrhage control and now standard in civilian trauma kits.

How is it different from a crepe or pressure bandage?

A crepe bandage holds a dressing in place. This is a dressing, a pressure applicator and a fixation system in one unit, designed so a single responder can apply firm, focused pressure over a bleeding wound without needing a second pair of hands or separate components.

Green or white — does it matter?

Functionally no; it is about setting. Green is the military and tactical version where a bandage should not be conspicuous. White is the civilian version, and a white bandage also makes fresh bleeding through the dressing far easier to spot.

Which size for which wound?

Broadly: 10 x 17cm for limb wounds, 15 x 18cm for larger limb and shoulder wounds, and 30 x 30cm for abdominal, chest and multi-trauma wounds where a small pad simply will not cover the injury.

Can it be used for a snake bite?

No — do not use a trauma bandage for snakebite. In Australia "pressure bandage" usually means pressure immobilisation for snake, funnel-web or cone-shell envenomation, which is a different treatment needing a long elastic bandage with a tension indicator applied along the whole limb. This bandage concentrates pressure on one wound and is the wrong tool. Use a purpose-made snake bite bandage with tension indicator and follow current Australian Resuscitation Council guidance.
