QV Wash is a soap-free, pH-balanced body wash from Ego Pharmaceuticals, formulated with 10% glycerin for dry and sensitive skin. It cleanses with a light foaming action rather than the stripping detergency of soap, and it is free from fragrance, colour, lanolin and propylene glycol. This is the 1 litre bottle.

Why choose QV Wash instead of soap?

Soap is the problem it solves. Ordinary soap is alkaline, and it strips the skin's natural oils along with the dirt - which is why skin feels tight after a shower and why dry skin gets worse the more diligently it is washed. QV Wash is soap free and pH balanced to match skin, so it cleans without dismantling the barrier you are then trying to repair with moisturiser.

The 10% glycerin is what separates it from a plain non-soap cleanser. Glycerin is a humectant, so some hydration is delivered during washing rather than relying entirely on what goes on afterwards. It also keeps a light foaming action, which many people want - washing with something that does not lather at all takes some getting used to.

If your skin is very dry rather than simply dry, QV Gentle Wash carries 15% glycerin and is the step up. QV Wash is the everyday choice for dry and sensitive skin; Gentle Wash is for skin that is genuinely struggling. Both are non-comedogenic, dermatologically tested and free of the four common irritants.

Common uses

Daily showering for anyone whose skin is dry, tight or reactive after ordinary soap or shower gel - which is the single most common cause of winter itch. It is also used as a hand and body cleanser in households managing eczema, where removing soap from the routine does more good than any product added on top. The 1 litre size is the practical one for a family or for anyone using it twice daily. For very dry skin, QV Gentle Wash 1L steps up to 15% glycerin, and QV Bar is the soap-free bar if you prefer one. Follow it with QV Cream while skin is still damp, and browse the full QV range.

QV Wash FAQs

What is the difference between QV Wash and QV Gentle Wash?

Glycerin content and how much they foam. QV Wash has 10 percent glycerin with a light foaming action and suits dry, sensitive skin. QV Gentle Wash has 15 percent and is formulated for very dry, sensitive skin. Both are soap free, pH balanced and free of the same common irritants.

Is it really soap free?

Yes. It cleanses with mild surfactants rather than true soap, which is alkaline and strips skin oils. That is the reason skin does not feel tight afterwards, and it is the main reason it is recommended for dry and sensitive skin in the first place.

Can I use it on my face?

Many people do, and it is fragrance free and non-comedogenic, so it is unlikely to irritate. QV does make dedicated face cleansers formulated for facial skin if you want the closer match. Keep any wash out of the eyes.

Can children and babies use it?

It is gentle enough for general family use, but QV makes a dedicated Baby range formulated for infant skin, which is the better choice for babies. Ask your pharmacist if a child has eczema or a diagnosed skin condition.

Will it help with eczema?

It supports skin affected by eczema by not stripping the barrier, which is a genuine part of management - but it is a cleanser, not a treatment, and contains no active medication. Use it alongside whatever your doctor has prescribed rather than in place of it.

How should I use it for best results?

Use it in place of soap or shower gel, then moisturise while the skin is still slightly damp - that traps the water already in the skin rather than trying to add it later. Warm rather than hot water helps too, since hot water strips oils just as effectively as soap does.

This information is a general guide and does not replace advice from your doctor or pharmacist. QV Wash is a soap-free cleanser and contains no active medication - it does not treat skin conditions. Avoid contact with the eyes. Seek medical advice if skin is broken, weeping, infected, or a rash is not improving.
