Why not just use a plaster?
Because a fingertip wound of any size wraps around a curved surface, and a flat strip either does not cover it or lifts within minutes. A finger dressing is shaped to wrap the digit and fasten to itself.
What does "low adherent" mean?
The pad does not bond to the wound surface, so removing it does not tear away newly formed tissue. That is what separates a wound dressing from an absorbent pad.
Do I still need tape?
No. The wrapping leader and adhesive tab hold the dressing on their own, which is the point — a one-handed injury usually means a one-handed dressing job.
