QUIKCLOT EMS Rolled Gauze is soft, non-woven, hydrophilic gauze impregnated with kaolin — an inorganic mineral that accelerates the body’s own clotting cascade. Two things matter about how it does that: there is no exothermic reaction (early haemostatic agents generated heat and could burn tissue), and it uses no animal or human proteins. 7.5cm x 1.2M, in an easy-tear pouch. Part of the Aero wound dressings range.

Haemostatic Gauze FAQs

How does haemostatic gauze work?

The kaolin coating activates the clotting cascade on contact with blood, so the body clots faster than it otherwise would. The gauze itself still has to be packed firmly into the wound with pressure held — it accelerates clotting, it does not replace pressure.

Does it burn, like older products?

No. Early-generation haemostatic agents were exothermic and could cause thermal injury. Kaolin-based gauze produces no exothermic reaction, which is why it superseded them.

Who should use it?

Trained responders. Wound packing is a technique, and packing the wrong wound — a chest or abdominal cavity, for instance — can do harm. Training matters more here than with most first aid items.

EMS roll or combat gauze?

Both are kaolin gauze. The combat gauze is 3.65M and intended for deep packing of large wounds; this 1.2M EMS roll suits smaller wounds and general trauma kits.
