How Techni Ice works and how to hydrate it

It arrives dry and flat, which is the point - it stores and ships in almost no space. Soaking the sheet in water lets the cells absorb and swell into gel, and from then on it behaves as a conventional gel pack: freeze it for cold, or warm it for heat. Because it is hydrated rather than pre-filled, one sheet can be cut into the shapes you actually need before soaking. Use it with a cloth between the pack and the skin in both directions - never apply it straight from the freezer to bare skin, and check the temperature before applying heat, particularly on anyone with reduced sensation, reduced circulation, or who cannot tell you it is too hot. Around 15 to 20 minutes on, then off for at least as long, is the usual guidance for both.

Common uses

Sports and workplace first aid, clinic and physiotherapy treatment rooms, transporting temperature-sensitive items, and camping and esky use. Techni Ice FAQs

How do you activate Techni Ice?

Soak the dry sheet in water so the cells absorb and swell into gel. Once hydrated it works like a normal gel pack. Cut it to the shapes you want before soaking, not after.

Is Techni Ice reusable?

Yes, that is its main advantage. Refreeze or reheat and use it again. Replace a sheet if it is punctured, leaking or no longer holds its gel.

Can it be used for heat as well as cold?

Yes, it works both ways. Follow the manufacturer's heating instructions and always check the temperature before it touches skin, especially for children, the elderly, or anyone with reduced sensation.

Can Techni Ice be cut to size?

Yes. Cut between the squares to make a smaller pack or a shape that fits a specific area or container. Cut before hydrating so the cells stay intact.

How long should a cold pack be applied?

Around 15 to 20 minutes, with a cloth between the pack and the skin, then off for at least as long before repeating. Stop earlier if the skin becomes numb, white or mottled.
