The Active Seal Adult Long Leg Cast Bandage Protector is a reusable long leg cast protector measuring 102cm - the longest in the range, sized to seal above an above-knee cast. Made from TPE, it maintains a waterproof seal for showering, bathing, swimming, water sports, whirlpools and hot tubs.
Why choose a long leg cast protector
An above-knee cast is the hardest of all to keep dry, and the one people most often give up on. At 102cm this long leg cast protector reaches high on the thigh to seal on skin above the cast. Anything shorter seals over the cast itself, where the surface is porous and uneven, and water finds its way in every time.
There is a safety dimension here that the arm versions do not have. Showering with a long leg cast means standing on one leg on a wet surface, so a cover that goes on quickly and does not need re-adjusting reduces the time spent balancing. Most people manage this far better seated - a shower stool and a handheld hose are worth having alongside it.
Keeping the cast dry is clinically necessary, not cosmetic: a wet plaster cast softens and stops supporting the fracture, and a wet fibreglass cast holds damp padding against skin along the whole leg. The seal is formed by the TPE stretching over the limb - no pumps, no hook and loop, no adhesive tape - and it is reusable and folds compactly.

How long is it?

Is it safe to shower standing up in a long leg cast?
Take care - you are balancing on one leg on a wet floor. A shower stool or chair and a handheld hose make it considerably safer, and a non-slip mat is worth having. The protector going on quickly means less time spent balancing.
Why does the cast have to stay dry?
A plaster cast softens when wet and loses the support the fracture depends on. A fibreglass cast traps water in its padding against the skin along the whole leg, causing itching, maceration and skin breakdown you cannot inspect.
Can I swim or use a spa with it?
It is intended for swimming, water sports, whirlpools and hot tubs as well as showering and bathing. Confirm with your treating doctor or fracture clinic first, as some injuries and casts should not be submerged at all.
How long will it last?
Three to four weeks of daily use with normal care. Pool chemicals, spa water and heat shorten its life, so rinse it in fresh water afterwards and dry it away from direct heat.
What if water gets in?
Remove it, dry the leg and the cast edges as much as you can, and contact your doctor or fracture clinic if the cast feels soft, loose or heavy, smells, or the skin underneath becomes itchy or sore. Do not use a hairdryer or heater on a cast.
Follow the advice of your treating doctor or fracture clinic about getting a cast wet - some injuries and cast types should not be submerged regardless of the cover used. Not for use on broken skin. Take particular care with balance and slipping when showering with a leg cast. Inspect the protector before each use and discard it if split or perished.
