Aeroplast Blue Dressing is a blue detectable dressing strip measuring 7.5cm x 1m, cut to length as needed. It is visually detectable, hypo-allergenic and latex free - a wound protection dressing designed so that if it comes off, it is found.
Why choose a blue detectable dressing
The colour is the function. Blue does not occur naturally in food, so a blue detectable dressing that detaches is immediately obvious against a production line, a preparation bench or a batch of product. A skin-tone plaster in the same situation is close to invisible, which is exactly the scenario food safety systems are built to prevent.
Being supplied as a 1 metre strip rather than pre-cut plasters is a practical advantage. Cuts are not a standard size, so cutting to length means one dressing covers a fingertip, a knuckle or a longer laceration on a forearm without keeping four box sizes in the first aid cabinet.

Why are food-industry dressings blue?
Because blue does not occur naturally in food, so a dressing that comes off is immediately visible against product or equipment. A conventional skin-tone plaster in the same place is very hard to see, which is the contamination risk the colour exists to remove.
Is this dressing metal detectable?
This one is visually detectable. If your site runs metal detection on the line, you need the metal detectable version, which also adds a waterproof film and sterility. Check your food safety plan for which is required.
Why a strip rather than pre-cut plasters?
Because wounds are not standard sizes. A 1 metre strip cut to length covers a fingertip or a long forearm graze from the same roll, which means fewer box sizes to stock and less waste.
What does hypo-allergenic mean here?
The adhesive is formulated to reduce the chance of a skin reaction, which matters where dressings are worn through a shift, changed daily, and applied to hands that are washed constantly. It is also latex free, removing that allergy risk.
Is it waterproof?
This version is a wound protection dressing and is not specified as waterproof. For wet work and washdown areas choose the waterproof, metal detectable version - a dressing that lifts in water is both a wound risk and a contamination risk.
How should dressings be managed in a food area?
Follow your food safety plan: detectable dressings, usually worn under a glove, recorded when applied, and checked at breaks and end of shift. If a dressing is missing, the plan should say what happens to the affected product.
A dressing protects a wound; it does not treat infection. Clean the wound before dressing, change dressings as required and whenever they become wet or soiled, and seek medical advice for deep or contaminated wounds, wounds that will not stop bleeding, or any sign of infection. In food handling environments, follow your organisation food safety plan regarding detectable dressings, glove use and reporting.
