AEROPLAST Rigid Sports Tape is a non-elastic strapping tape for restricting joint movement. The narrow 2.5cm width — for fingers, thumbs and the anchor strips that hold a wider strapping job together. Rigid tape does one thing well: it holds a joint out of the range that would re-injure it, which is why it is applied before play rather than after. It does not stretch — if you want a tape that moves with the athlete, that is kinesiology tape. Part of the sports tapes and strapping range.

Why non-elastic?
Because the job is mechanical restriction. A joint taped rigidly cannot reach the position that caused the injury. An elastic tape would give under exactly the load you are trying to prevent, so it is the wrong tool for this.
Which width for which joint?
Roughly: 2.5cm for fingers and thumbs and for anchor strips, 3.8cm as the standard ankle width, 5cm for knees and shoulders. Most kit bags carry at least the 3.8cm and one other.
Does it need an underwrap?
On skin that will be taped repeatedly, yes — rigid tape grips hard by design, and repeated removal over the same area causes skin damage. Underwrap costs a little adhesion and saves a lot of skin.
How long should it stay on?
It is applied for the activity and removed afterwards. Rigid tape is not designed for multi-day wear, and leaving it on restricts circulation as swelling changes underneath it.
