What is a 30 Gauge Needle?

A 30 gauge (30G) needle is a very fine hypodermic needle — the higher the gauge number, the thinner the needle. This 30G x 1/2" (13mm) needle comes in a pack of 100 and is designed for injections that need a fine, low-discomfort needle.

What is a 30G needle used for?

• Subcutaneous injections (insulin, heparin, biologic medicines) into fatty tissue

Needle gauge and size explained

Gauge measures needle thickness: a higher number means a thinner needle, so 30G is finer than 27G or 22G. The 1/2 inch (13mm) is the needle length, suited to shallow subcutaneous and intradermal injections. For deeper intramuscular injections a lower gauge and longer needle is usually chosen.
