AEROSWAB Sterile Non-Woven Swabs are the low-lint alternative to cotton gauze. Non-woven fabric sheds far fewer fibres into a wound and holds together better when saturated, which is why it is preferred for wound contact and for cleaning around a wound that is about to be dressed. Cotton gauze is more absorbent and more abrasive; non-woven is cleaner and stronger. 10 x 10cm, packs of 3, box of 25. Part of the Aero wound dressings range.

Cleaning and dressing clean wounds where lint in the wound bed matters. The sterile cotton gauze version is more absorbent and more abrasive for cleaning; non-sterile gauze suits general non-wound use. Browse the Aero wound dressings.

Non-Woven Swab FAQs

Non-woven or cotton gauze?

Non-woven sheds less lint and stays intact when wet, which suits direct wound contact. Cotton gauze is more absorbent and has an abrasive texture that is better for scrubbing debris out of a dirty graze. They are complementary, not interchangeable.

Why does lint matter?

Fibres left in a wound act as foreign bodies. They can prolong healing and give bacteria somewhere to sit, which is the reason low-lint materials exist for wound contact at all.

Why packs of 3 rather than singles?

Because most dressings need more than one swab, and a pack of 3 opens once for the whole job. Each pack is sterile until opened, so the sterility is not compromised by taking a second swab.

Are these sterile?

Yes — sterile in sealed packs of 3, which is what makes them appropriate for dressing clean wounds. Once a pack is opened, the unused swabs in it are no longer sterile.
